The dot matrix printer prints dots on the paper to produce different kinds of fonts and graphics. The pins of the head are driven back and forth and up and down by means of an electromagnet or a solenoid. Though the pins move fast enough, the overall speed of printing is slow.
Also the number of pins in the head is limited. For this reason, the quality of printouts from a dot matrix printer is always low in comparison to other types of printers such as inkjet and laser. .
